The
Etruscan Ceramist's Workshop
The primary objective is to become familiar with
the ceramics production in the ancient world, as well as learning
the techniques of production and vase decoration. Participants will
build their knowledge of the artisan class as a cultural vehicle
in history. Observation of several Etruscan ceramic reproductions,
from the forming of the clay, use of ancient instruments and knowledge
of the proper uses of the products. The finished object will be
thereby inserted in its historical context showing how artisans'
products were considered as vehicles of the cultural tradition.
This practical seminar is dedicated to learning
techniques, working and decorating the Etruscan
ceramics, from the Villanovian phase to that of red and black figures.
The workshop activities will be carried out at the "Centro
Integrato di Archeologia Sperimentale", a partner of Laboratorio
Viaggi where expert ceramists will guide the participants in the
theoretical phases of learning methodology and the practical experimentation
of working the pieces.
They will learn not only the procedures but also the secrets of
the ancient Etruscan tradition. The historic trail will be in various
phases, from the "impasto" to the figurative. Guided visits
will be dedicated to deepening knowledge of the Etruscan civilization.
